Kick It Out Week October 2009

In October 2009 Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust held their annual Kick Racism out of Football Week.

Throughout the week many events took part in the Borough of Swindon with 15 primary schools and local football clubs taking part in a week long initiative.

The designated game for the Kick It Out Week was Swindon Town's league one encouter with Hartlepool game. The local schools and football clubs were offered the chance to purchase discounted tickets for the match at £10 for adults and £2 for children. As an incentive half of the money raised by the schools and clubs went back to them.

During the week leading up to the match Swindon Town players such as Kevin Amankwaah, Scott Cuthbert, Ben Hutchinson and others visited the schools to take part in a Swindon Town Kick It Out assembly. Here the children were asked about their views on racism and they also got an insight into the life of a professional footballer with questions like Walkers Crisps, to the players amusements.

The week of action finished off on matchday with the two best ticket selling schools Brookfield Primary and Red Oaks Primary along with Croft Junior Football Club took part in half time entertainment while also parading Kick It Out banners before the game.

With all the children and their parents sat in the Adkins Family Stand accompanied by an African Drummer, and with the weather staying dry it was a great day to round off the Kick Racism out of Football Week.
