Friendly Football Festival A Big Hit
Posted on 2nd October 2009
Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust hosted a Friendly Football Festival last Thursday at the County Ground under the new ‘Every Player Counts’ initiative. The festival saw 30 adults with learning and physical disabilities participate in football skills and small sided games.
The teams, which were mainly formed by Upham Road Resource Centre and Swindon Leopards, had a very enjoyable day and really gave they’re all in both the skills sessions and the games.
Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust Disability Officer, Adam Greaney, commented:
“It’s been a fantastic day for everyone involved and it’s great to see all the players enjoying themselves. With the new Every Player Counts funding we have received it will enable us to deliver more of these festivals in and around Swindon. The overall aim is to stage more festivals, get more disabled players playing and ultimately support the set up of new disability clubs which we can guide disabled players into”.
Swindon currently has 1 team for Adults with Learning and Physical Disabilities, the Swindon Leopards, who play in the South West Ability Counts League. It is hoped that more teams will form in Swindon so in the future Wiltshire can have their own Disability League.
